CBES & FSW UK Support Those In Need with Salvation Army Donation

This Christmas, City Building Engineering Services (CBES) have teamed up with their key supply partner Fridge Spares Wholesale Ltd (FSW) to spread a little festive joy to those most in need with their support of The Salvation Army’s Parkhead Lunch Club in Glasgow.

CBES and FSW continually look for opportunities to give back to the communities they work with, and this winter we have selected to support this charitable cause in an effort to make the Christmas season a special time for as many people as we can.

Jim McMillan (FSW Branch Manager – Glasgow) and Colin Broadfoot (CBES Project Manager) took time out of their busy schedules to volunteer at the weekly Lunch Club run by volunteers from The Salvation Army’s Parkhead branch. The Salvation Army, established in London over 160 years ago, works across the UK to fight social inequality and transform lives through charitable action, practical support, and services to respond to people in crisis.

Every week, the charity’s Parkhead contingent provides nutritious, home-cooked meals for vulnerable people in East Glasgow. This service offers a lifeline to those less fortunate, one that is especially important during the coldest months of the year. But more than just providing food to the hungry, the Parkhead volunteers further provide access to warm spaces and wider support such as internet access, digital skills courses, food bank support, and a listening ear for anyone in need of it.

While assisting the Salvation Army volunteers, Jim and Colin got to know Lunch Club leader Linda Dunlop and Parkhead Secretary Flora Muir, both of whom dedicate much of their free time to delivering their charity’s initiatives. Thanks to the commitment and generosity of volunteers such as Linda and Flora, 45 local people enjoy good food and good company every week.

Jim McMillan, FSW Glasgow Branch Manager, said:

“We’re grateful to The Salvation Army Parkhead for hosting us and showing us just a small part of the amazing efforts of their volunteers. Colin and I would like to thank them for their incredible work within our local area – we were truly humbled by seeing the amount that they do for our community. We’re proud that FSW and CBES have been able to support such a worthy cause.”
